My First Trip to Thailand: An Honest Travel Experience from Start to Finish

Introduction

My first trip to Thailand was a roller coaster ride of my emotions excited, overwhelmed, and touched just to mention a few. Since it was the first time I traveled abroad everything seemed new to me from airport procedures to the culture which is completely different.

I have always wanted to go to Thailand because of the beaches, food, temples, and nice people. The one thing that I didn’t anticipate was how great and friendly the country would be, even to a first time traveler.

First Impressions: Landing in Thailand

Even before I landed in Thailand, my mind was already running with the emotions of excitement and curiosity at the same time. Yes, the airport was packed but it was quite orderly and I went through immigration faster and easier than I thought it would be.

As I came out, the heat, and noise from the street as well as remnants of the never ending movement gave me the feeling that I was miles away from my home. Although it was a mess of cars on the road, one can really feel the heartbeat of the city, traffic everywhere, street vendors at every corner, and a speed which never seemed to slow down.

Exploring Cities, Beaches, and Local Life

Thailand is a country that can offer you the best of both worlds, city life and nature. Grand temples, shopping malls, and night markets are just a few of the things with which Bangkok raved me.

The pictures don’t do places like Wat Arun and the Grand Palace any justice, they are so much more beautiful when you see them in real life.

The moment I left for the beach destinations, the atmosphere was totally different. Beautiful water blue, the beach soft as a feather, and the nights so quiet, all these things made me slow down and take my time. Whether it was beach walking or watching sunsets, these simple activities turned out to be the most memorable parts of my trip.

Thai Food: A Flavorful Adventure

Thai food was definitely my trip’s highlight. Besides the street food that was great and affordable, as well as hygienic, I had meals from local family owned restaurants, and each of them was a new discovery.

I had a chance to eat pad thai, mango sticky rice, green curry, and fresh seafood. The combination of sweet, spicy, and sour tastes was completely new to me.

People, Culture, and Small Surprises

The amazing things that chased my first journey to Thailand after were the people though. The locals were always polite, helpful, and smiling, no matter what. Although we didn’t speak the same language, it was not difficult to communicate.

Moreover, I observed that respect and love are at the core of Thai culture. Such small things as taking off your shoes before stepping into a place or saying hi with a wai made me realize the culture even more.

Final Thoughts

The initial trip of mine to Thailand was beyond my expectations. It was cheap, safe, and full of culture which made it perfect for those who are new to traveling abroad. I came back with lovely memories, the travel bug awakened even more inside me, and a strong urge to see more of the world.

It was not just a vacation but a confidence boost to me as a traveler which Thailand gave me. What if you are plotting your first trip abroad? Thailand would be a great place for starting.
